Joe brings quick and thoughtful insight that you don’t want to miss. If you like this, check out his other podcast This Old Marketing.
I never miss a week of TOM because I always learn something. Maybe it’s a TV show or article I should read. Sometimes it’s reinforcement of a philosophy that has become my own mantra “Don’t build your marketing house on rented land.” I do PR/Communications/Content Marketing for a large public school corporation and find nuggets of wisdom every week. Thanks guys!
I have followed Joe & Robert for a very long time. Have bought & read or listened to all the books. Bought copies for others. Went to Content Marketing World and it was life-changing. Please don’t stop doing the podcast again, guys. It broke my heart. You guys are geniuses and I learn so much.
I follow Joe and Robert for a while. I read every book they wrote and looking forwarded for more books. The podcast is stuffed with the latest on marketing wrapped with their wisdom and point of view. Robert and Joe are the best out there when it comes to content marketing. I love to hear what they are going to say next 🎧 I'm so happy the do the podcast weekly now!
Love the show, love them, love their marketing knowledge. I just wish they would leave the politics out of it. Becoming a bit much. Still amazing info to be had from this show though.
I cried tears of sadness when the podcast ended and cried tears of joy when Joe & Robert triumphantly returned! This is a MUST listen for any marketer, even if you don’t work directly in content marketing. The insights go far deeper than content. The hot takes on business strategy, tequila and Tito’s are top notch. I kid, I kid. 🤣 But seriously, know this podcast makes me a better marketer and I’d be shocked if it couldn’t do the same for you.
These guys are the tip of the spear, and my North Star when it comes to content marketing. Incredibly insightful and sophisticated. I always take away valuable insights that I can apply to business. I’ve listened to every episode...I’m addicted :)
I anxiously await each new episode of “This Old Marketing!” Joe and Robert mix lively conversation with useful information for marketers and a perpetual “look around the corner” at what’s coming next.
These are The thought leaders in Content Marketing. I love this show. Thanks Joe and Robert.
I have listened to over 100 episodes; several of them twice. I love their banter and the articles and other reference material they cite. I have learned a lot about marketing and have deconstructed many episodes to help me with my podcast. Great work fellows, May Your Tribe Increase
Been a listener for many years and a Content Marketing World attendee for the past few years. This podcast is a wealth of information. Current news articles and Content Marketing trends. I look forward to the episode every other week!!
I love this show because the hosts are hilarious and I always get at least one gem from every episode that I can apply to my own exommerce business. These guys deconstruct what's going on in the marketing and publishing world so we don't have to, and they do it in a relaxed, yet structured format that moves along at a fast clip. Their uniqe point of view lets me see the big picture of what's relevant as far as business models, trends, and changes in marketing and publishing while drilling down to some relevant specifics every week. The rants and raves they do each episode are also hilarious.
I have been learning from Joe and Robert for five years and I attest they are on top of their game. If you follow them you will learn a ton on content marketing which will help you in your career. Jorge Solorio
I listened to Joe and Robert for quite some time in my previous job role. So when they started up the podcast, I had to listen to it. Even though my job role has changed, I value their perspective on the industry. Thanks guys for the great work!
To say that Joe and Robert are wizards of content is an understatement. In this essential podcast, they give any content stakeholder timely tools and advice to elevate their content game. Highly recommend!
Having this podcast back is one of the better things to happen to my listening in a while. I still don’t agree with everything but that is what makes it fun and a good listen.
I follow Joe and Robert for a while. I read every book they wrote and looking forwarded for more books. The podcast is stuffed with the latest on marketing wrapped with their wisdom and point of view. Robert and Joe are the best out there when it comes to content marketing. I love to here what they gonna say next 🎧
As a digital marketer in this fast-paced world, this podcast provides great food for thought. These days, it can be easy to stay laser-focused on your own lane, so to hear about what is going on in the content marketing world, with hilarious commentary, is a breath of fresh air. Glad to see this podcast coming back to life!
Icons in the world of content marketing, and they continue their historic run with this podcast. It will rethink how you market your business or brand. Terrific show!
James Brown was the Godfather of Soul so can someone please make Joe Pulizzi an orange cape so that he can reign as the official Godfather of Content Marketing? Robert Rose is so brilliant that sometimes his mouth can't catch up with the thoughts that are oozing out of his brain. But that's just to remind us that he is not actually super-human. Love this guys to pieces and this show is a must listen for everyone who wants to succeed online. Thanks for all the insights and the chuckles. ~Ms. Ileane
As a content marketing manager, this podcast has helped me stay up to date on my craft without having to sort through the endless stream of junk out there. I also love their nerdy humor!
I've been listening for a couple of years now, and week after week, I learn more from this podcast than any other marketing source. Not only do they go over the latest marketing headlines, but they give insights on why this news is important to marketers. Though their true passion is content marketing, Robert and Joe are informative AND entertaining in many aspects of marketing. Thanks to this podcast, I've been able to hel pchange how my company views content marketing.
I've been in digital marketing for over a decade and one of the most interesting -- but also challenging -- things about it is the pace of change. This old marketing podcast helps me stay afloat and be on the ready for upcoming trends. And makes every Monday better to boot. Thanks guys -- keep up the great work! And yes, we're all ready for your tito's drunk episode. ;-)
After listening to this show for over a year, I have to admit that PnR brings the heat! Personality is key, and I honestly laugh right along with them, feeling like I'm hanging out with two super-smart friends. Recommended to all my marketing peeps. Thank you for this gem!
After graduating college with a journalism degree and then watching my newspaper of employment go under, I thought my skill set had gone the way of the printing press. Thank you, Joe and Robert, for making it your mission to spread the gospel of content marketing and giving me the confidence that there's a market for my past experience and skills.
I love this show, thank you Rob & Joe for producing it. As a beginning content marketer it is great to listen to these two experienced voices share their opinions, rants and raves. Rob’s openings are fantastic!
This podcast has quickly become appointment listening every week. Content Marketing is covered but even more the guys share their thinking and share their lessons learned, as well as the lessons learned by people they know. Can not recommend this more highly.
It's been said that the best marketing, doesn't feel like like marketing. Likewise, the best thought leadership doesn't feel like thought leadership. And this is certainly the case with This Old Marketing. Joe Pulizzi and Robert Rose deliver what is arguably the best and most definitive podcast on Content Marketing, and they do it in an entertaining, interesting, intelligent and most importantly, humble way. The intros have evolved into an impressive weaving of the topical and the cultural wherein Rose starts us on journey— a content experience — before launching into the week’s news with Pulizzi. After the news, we get our favorite part of the show: Rants and Raves. The raves are well deserved and the rants, are handled respectfully. One of my favorite parts of the show is its namesake, This Old Marketing, wherein Joe and Robert take turns introducing us to Content Marketing examples of yore. Sometimes these are user-contributed, sometimes they’re dug up by Pulizzi and Rose themselves, but they’re always fascinating, interesting and educational. Favorites include Poor Richard’s Almanack, NFL Films and Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom, but honestly, they’re all worthy. If I had to pick just one marketing podcast, This Old Marketing with PnR would be it. Just don’t forget your favorite beverage. When you hear “Native Advertising”…you'll know what to do.
Have listened religiously for a while and would not dream of missing an episode. One of the most entertaining and insightful pieces of marketing content around!
I am a marketing podcast junkie, I have had the CMO title before and currently hold the title of VP of Sales and Marketing for a 4 year old startup called Placester. Staying up to date with what’s happening in the industry and getting a sense of where it’s going can mean the difference between success and failure for a CMO and the company they help grow. Joe & Robert are experts that share everything they know, true content marketers and complete gentleman. I only wish they published more than once a week.
If I didn't voraciously consume content and social marketing news, anyway, I'd probably still take in this show every week. PnR take a subject that used to be considered, by most non-marketers, a yawn-fest and give it a treatment that is, by turns, laugh-out-loud hilarious, and then evocative to the point of generating "Eureka!" moments (though my wife's eyes still glaze over when I start talking engagement strategies and the need for more useful analytics)... And just to clarify—like most of the boundaries in the infoverse, a very fuzzy line demarcates journalism from entertainment. This show cranks out admitted opinions from two, I think, pretty self-deprecating guys. Just last week Pulizzi made a point of saying that anyone who tells you that there is only one way to do this stuff is sadly misguided. I really don't perceive the arrogance mentioned in an earlier review. Much of the information and advice is pretty far above my current pay-grade, as I'm just getting started in my endeavor. Still, there aren't enough hours in the day to put even just the appropriate advice into practice. The good news is that if you keep listening long enough, the information sort of coalesces naturally into some guiding principals that become second nature. So if you want to hear about the latest developments in content marketing (and never tire of the phrase "Native Advertising"), and you want to hear it from two guys who would be two of the smartest, funniest drive-time morning DJs if they decided to ditch their current careers, give This Old Marketing a listen.
As a marketing professional, I enjoy the guys, their differing opinions, the variety of stories covered, and even Robert’s humor. I actually listen to each episode once on normal speed and once on 1.5 speed to catch anything I missed. I think this podcast will be an ongoing staple. But if you’re looking for a podcast to help you understand content marketing in the first place, This Old Marketing is worth a listen. It’s super timely and sheds light on content marketing in action. Don’t expect an audio course in the basic concepts of content marketing, but it’s a must if you’re a person who learns well by exploring real-life examples.
My name is Douglas and I’m a marketing podcast-aholic. I host a marketing podcast. I listen to lots of marketing podcasts and this is without a doubt one of my favorite podcasts. I listen to it as soon as it comes out and HAVE LISTENED TO EVERY EPISODE. Listening to this show is like getting to sit in the back seat of a car while two delightfully smart content marketing guys sit up front and talk about what’s going on in the marketing world as we drive to work. But it’s more than that - you can tell these two guys are great friends and respect one another very much. They also both have a very active sense of humor that is infectious. Bonus: if “fantastic” is one of your favorite words, here’s your podcast. Also, if you listen to this podcast during the cocktail hour, make sure to play the PNR drinking game: any time the phrase “native advertising” is mentioned, take a shot! Cheers!
PNR: This Old Marketing delivers the right combination of news, commentary, rants and raves on the fast evolving world of content and digitial marketing. This is my go-to podcast for staying current on trends and analysis in the world of marketing, and for a regular dose of reason and sanity. Joe and Robert know what they are talking about, but never take themselves too seriously — it feels like you are sitting right next to them having a beer and talking about ideas, challenges, what’s working and what needs to be fixed. (Just don’t mention “native advertising”…)
I look forward to this podcast every week! I love to laugh and I love to learn. I get to do both at the same time! What a great concept! It’s obvious that Robert & Joe are having fun with this podcast! Keep up the great Work! Thanks!
Joe and Robert are actually one of the few people in marketing that actually know what they are talking about. Great podcast, they never miss a beat! Plus, it makes me look and feel smart after I hear it.
I started listening to this podcast about three months ago and have become a huge fan. Joe and Robert keep it light and entertaining but also very relevant and I know I will be up-to-date on all the news for the week through their podcast. They have great chemistry and I love to listen to it on my drive into work! Keep it up, guys! - Amy Martin, Principal at JumpStart
If you're in marketing, listening to this podcast is like dropping in on a couple of informed and smart colleagues every week. These guys care about the same things I do, and aren't shy about sharing their viewpoints. Fair warning: you might be tempted to chuckle, voice your opinions or otherwise chip in. This can be embarrassing if you're listening to it in the gym.
This Old Marketing combines 3 of my favorite things: podcasts, content marketing, and rad people! The show is not only incredibly insightful and full of healthy debate, but it’s also incredibly entertaining with a genuine approach. Robert Rose and Joe Pulizzi have a great rapport and when listening to the show I can’t help but feel I’m somehow included in the conversation. They both give very unique commentary on the topics they choose and many times connect the dots between seemingly unrelated events. This Old Marketing is absolutely a go-to weekly resource for newsworthy information on the broader content marketing space.
The podcast and the website are a perfect combination, informative, rich with advices and most importantly is to get back and fill the spotted errors, falls, or whatever you call it, on the website by reading the well curated, easy to digest articles. Would love to see quick “how-to’s” or short summaries about the podcasts with less judgment and more practical tips - it’s a bit long for my daily commuting to work. Other than that, keep up getting the awesome, let me call them, case studies.
Think back to 1987 and you hear “This Is Your Brain on Drugs.” Now we apply "This Is Your Brain on Content Marketing” and instead of becoming a fried egg, you see expansion and understanding of content and content marketing. Most marketing podcast provide tips and trick, Robert and Joe, discuss the issues of the day and provide their opinion - where you agree with it or not - to help those who listen grow there craft to the best it can be. Thanks, PnR and keep it up.
This is a nice way to get up-to-date on the current happenings in CM. Thanks CMI for a quality program.
The content is excellent and the chemistry is obviously a result of many years of friendship and respect. Each week, I gain a new perspective or something I want to share with my colleagues and clients. It's become my Tuesday listening obsession! Seriously, even my dog is happy because he gets a walk out of every episode.
PNR: This Old Marketing is a wonderful weekly snapshot into the world of content marketing. They touch on topics in pop culture that I would have never thought of as content marketing before listening to them. The format of the podcast is perfect and entertaining for the daily commute too. The reason I didn't give them a perfect score is because, like any good podcast, they have room to grow. I would love to hear interviews with people they think are doing content marketing right and give a weekly content marketing tip. As a content marketer myself, I crave actionable tips. The more the content is actionable, the better. Keep up the great work guys!
PNR is the most educational, informative – and entertaining – content marketing podcast available today. Joe and Robert are marketing experts that provide critical strategic guidance -- and great tips -- to enterprise marketers committed to being more effective by re-directing their massive advertising budgets to content marketing. The weekly hour of "audio goodness" is well-structured and well produced. Plus, you can always catch some odd sound emanating from Robert's studio...makes for a fun drinking game. I never miss it!
This is a must listen for all marketers. Informative and fun, Pulizzi and Rose discuss content marketing news that's relevant to today's businesses. From their raves to what drives them crazy, you'll come away with new tidbits of knowledge every week.
If you are looking to broaden your knowledge of content marketing, this is a MUST listen. Ever since I started listening a couple of months ago I have had great success with my content campaigns! Thanks guys, keep it up!
I first heard of Joe and Robert when I attended the CM World event a few years ago, and stumbled upon their podcast earlier in 2014. As someone into content, it's a fast listen and a show that always elicits taking down a few reminder notes...not easy when you're in the car! If you're into content marketing and want to understand how this stuff actually works, this is a very easy entry point. I also think a drinking game can be built around it too (when Joe laughs, when Robert says 'fantastic', when native advertising comes up). I mean, how can you beat that?
Covers news and the good and bad of content marketing. Weekly format has good structure and hosts have good dialogue.
The title might suggest that I listen for selfish reasons as I communte approximately 50 miles one way to work everyday. However when I listen to a podcast that makes me look forward to my hour commute; most of the time driving in the dark and on a Tuesday, well then you got me..... Joe and Robert's This Old Marketing does just that; even though I am not a CMO, Assistant CMO or a mini CM anything, it's very informative, provides great insight and is truly entertaining. And their good dudes. Do yourself a favor and subscribe. But please, don't hold it against Robert that he's a Dallas Cowboy fan, he's from California.....Go Browns!
I love this podcast. I have learned so much about digital news and the world of content marketing since I started listening to it about 6 months ago. This is the NPR-esque version of Content Marketing. With Joe and Rob's point of view on weekly news, I feel like I actually have some idea about what's going on and I love how the notes get posted on Saturdays. Keep it coming.
Look forward to this every week! Fantastic resource for content marketing news.
I listen to a lot of marketing podcasts and this is one of the best! If you are wanting to catch up on the world of content marketing, then Robert Rose and "Itsy Bitsy Pullizi" is where it is at! There are extremely informative and funny, nobody else I would want to learn content marketing from! @colinmhaas
Joe and Robert provide extremely valuable insights about content marketing. Recommended for both novices and veterans of this ancient and fascinating marketing strategy.
This podcast is a weekly treat. I've listened to every episode of this podcast. I've at least tripled my understanding of content marketing and native advertising. Listen to two episodes and you'll be hooked.
Joe Pulizzi and Robert Rose bring their energy, enthusiasm and expertise to this podcast. The format is easy to follow and transitions into a few different segments, allowing the listener to stay engaged as they tackle various topics within the content marketing industry. This is an ever-changing, evolving industry and having a podcast such as this to download each week will help marketing professionals stay on top of trends, topics and even the history of content marketing. Highly recommend!
Extremely impressed with the content and CONSISTENCY of this show. I have been in the industry for many years, and for a long time it was a lonely industry. Joe and Robert share incredible feedback and reinforce the same confidence I have had in this industry for years - They even get me more pumped! Us Content Marketing enthusiasts are not alone! They know their audience and talk about news, what's changing and how to be ahead of the crowd. I highly recommend subscribing and staying up-to-date with the episodes. Thanks for the GREAT content!
I have become addicted to Joe and Robert's weekly podcast. As a marketer, their work has become my absolute "must listen" update about my profession. Can any marketer really keep up with it all / this insane pace of change? These guys help me try! See you all in Cleveland in Sep 2014 for CM World.
As always, I am so impressed with the generosity that Joe and Robert show the community in bringing helpful resources to support our content marketing efforts. The show serves as a nice digest of what’s going on with content marketing related technologies and channels, and in pointing to various strains of discourse on practice in general. These are fun guys who like to have a good time on the show, which brings a sense of friendship (or even a support group) to a discipline that is in a 24/7 thesis-defense, given the amount of culture change often required to spread content excellence as a practice in our organizations.
Social Media and Content Marketing are always changing but old school marketing principles still apply. This podcast is a heady mix of both old & new, and I always feel smarter after each episode. There’s at least one nugget that I can put to use immediately. Never mind the convenience of multi-tasking while at the gym or driving.
I learn something I did not know every week. More importantly it is current, thoughtful information that I really need to know to stay abreast of the fast-changing world of content marketing. Joe and Robert are top-tier experts. They have the big picture. Well worth the time I spend listening to this show! Thank you so much Joe and Robert and please keep up the great work!
You know in those cop shows there are always the two partners who get along just enough while also having some side-line banter where they will never agree? Makes for classic shows and that type of banter carries moments in between action, it's entertaining. This show puts a bit of that banter in with marketing purpose. They make sense of what the "big guys" are doing. Good to get these perspectives before going back into the jungle.
Love your podcasts. I'm a 25+ year marketing veteran, and I find your shows provocative and inspiring in this new world of marketing! Joe and Robert are the "Click and Clack" of Content Marketing. Keep them coming!
This is a great podcast. Definitely worth listening to every week at the gym, in the car, wherever. Joe and Robert give you a fun and interesting summary of some of the latest news in the world of content marketing, and wonderful examples of who is doing it well and who isn't. If you work in marketing this is absolutely worth your time every week.
This podcast is at the top of my list. As a professional marketer, I always learn something and these guys are great aggregators of critical information within the modern marketing space. Always get at least one or two good chuckles too.
Joe and Robert are a dynamic duo. They do a terrific job covering case studies, current trends and topics. They aren't afraid to tackle controversial topics which makes for great dialog! I have already benefited from the information they share.
It's great to get so much information in a concentrated amount of time. I always leave with one or two really great thoughts that I've been able to use day-to-day. I love the Joe & Robert chemistry!
Heavy on case studies and jam packed with observations on the current state of marketing. Great source of strategic inspiration for content marketers.
Having known of Joe Pulizzi and Robert Rose from subscribing to CMI and reading Managing Content Marketing, I was really excited when they launched this pod. What I find great about this series is the fact that each week they report on hot topics and trends that have popped up in the marketing/business world, and work in their own professional (and sometimes witty) take on said topics. I especially enjoy the 'rants and raves' section of the pod. They have a winner here. They keep me both informed AND entertained. They are pros who love what they do!
Joe and Robert keep you entertained and up-to-date on the latest news the content marketing world has to offer. While just listening to the back and forth is entertaining in and of itself and enough to keep me listening, I always feel I receive valuable insights and quite a few "lightbulb" moments.
There are two things I love about PNR. Okay, three. First, Joe and Robert don't shy away from the topical issues of the day, even if they are controversial. Second, they don't always have a love-fest about the issues (that is, they don't always agree all the time), which presents differing viewpoints. And, finally, they tell it like it is. All in less than an hour. Great use of my time. You should check it out.
The two hosts play off of one another very well. The show brings timely marketing news, as well as thought leadership. I added this to my commute playlist as soon as it launched and love it.
Sometimes just one idea creates a major shift in your thinking - and that’s what the most recent show did for me. Planning for the atomization of content is a concept that gave me some needed clarity for 2014. Looking forward to future shows.
Marketing is getting harder every day. Joe Pulizzi and Robert Rose and pros and show you how it's done. Five stars. @StevenWardell
I absolutely love what Mr. Puilizzi and his team of contributors are doing over at Content Marketing Institute. They've helped me become a much better content marketer. So when I heard about this new podcast you can imagine my excitement. "This Old Marketing" doesn't disappoint. If you're in sales or marketing this podcast deserves a spot on your shortlist.
The first episode was excellent. Here's what I liked about it... - Robert and Joe obviously have good chemistry, although they aren't in perfect agreement, which is good. - They cover news. This isn't just another how-to marketing podcast. - The 'rants' segments were great. It's fun they mix in some thoughtful opinion. I'll be tuning in weekly. Well done, guys!
Great format with Joe Pulizzi and Robert Rose discussing some of the hot topics, rants and examples of content marketing. There's a great chemistry between them and the show's not just informative and timely but entertaining as well.
